Weymouth
College has invested a lot of money into its purpose built media centre The
Hive. To protect its facilities and prolong the life span of the equipment
within, there are some simple rules to follow.
Equipment
Certain
items of equipment require lenders to have received specific induction. These
items are clearly identified at the booking stage.
Whilst
equipment remains the property of the College at all times, the lender assumes
full responsibility for its safe use and storage throughout the loan period.
Lenders must
thoroughly check all equipment upon collection. The College reserves the right
to charge full replacement or repair costs for missing, broken or damaged
items, including individual components from kits.
Whilst every
care is taken to ensure equipment is issued in a safe, working condition, the
lender upon collection must visually inspect all electrical items, and report
any defects.
Equipment
must be collected and returned promptly at the scheduled or agreed time.
Sanctions may be added to the individual/group if deadlines missed have knock
on effect on other groups.
The stores
will allow adjustment of booking dates/times as long as they are delivered
within 24 hours before original collection date/time
Where
filming is taking place in a production crew, equipment should be reserved,
collected and returned by the relevant producer/director in the absence of this
person, a nominated person may collect or return. However, responsibility for
the equipment remains with the producer/director, and therefore responsibility
for any charges that may be incurred.
Equipment
will only be issued to students enrolled on media courses or to college staff.
Any person
who repeatedly loses, causes damage to, or returns equipment late may be
subject to sanctions, including being barred from future equipment use.
Should an
item of equipment be lost, damaged or broken whilst in your possession, you
must notify stores staff at your earliest opportunity. This allows for
contingency plans to be implemented, if required, during periods of heavy
equipment use.
Students
must not attempt to dismantle, repair or alter equipment in any way. This
includes the changing of mains plugs or video/audio connectors.
Equipment
may not be transferred or loaned to any other person for the duration of the
loan period. All transfers must be undertaken through the equipment stores,
unless stores staff grant specific transfer permission.
Equipment
must never be left unattended, and never left in unoccupied vehicles or
property.
Equipment
should be returned to the store in good, clean working order, ready for
restocking. Should significant time be required in preparing equipment for
restocking, late return sanctions may be incurred.
Equipment
must only be used in ways for which it was designed. All lenders must adhere to
the College Health and Safety Policy and must only participate in actions and
activities outlined and agreed in approved risk assessments.
All relevant
documentation, including Risk Assessments, must be completed and approved prior
to collection of equipment.
If private
transport is being used for equipment then the stores must have a copy of the
drivers licence, MOT certificate and insurance details before the equipment
will be issued. We are responsible for your safety so we need to ensure all
vehicles being used are safe and insured.
Facilities
Please
respect your working environment. By remembering that there are other groups
working in the building at the same time as you.
The
consuming of food and drink is prohibited in all areas of The Hive. An
exception for bottled water is allowed as long as the container has a sealed
lid to prevent spillage if knocked over.
There is to
be no consumption of any kind within the studio spaces due to the high value of
the equipment in these spaces. This includes bottled water. Water bottles may
be kept in the foyer area of the studio space and consumed in the corridor
outside the studio spaces.
The fittings
and fixtures within The Hive have been provided from the budget allocated to us
for such things. Please remember that you are not the only people that will be
using these and therefore treat them with respect by using them only in the
manner for which they were designed.
Upon
completion of your class whether this is studio or classroom based. Please
return your work area to a clean and tidy state ready for the next user. Straighten
Keyboard/Mouse/Monitor and remove any items of rubbish and place them in the
bin.
Notify a
Lecturer or staff member at your earliest opportunity to any damages/faults
that you come across. Do no attempt to fix or repair any damages/faults
yourselves.
The use of
mobile phones is permitted with the express permission of your lecturer. If you
need to take or make a call please respect the rest of the department by asking
to be excused and relocating yourself to somewhere where your communications
will not disturb others.
The Hive Media Centre is for the use of Media Students Only. Please do not invite friends or other students into the department, unless they are helping you with studio based work. Any non-media student will be asked to leave the department immediately
